Sending Love to Mom from Afar

With Mother’s Day approaching, you may be struggling with ways to celebrate your mom or mother figure this year—especially if you’re self-isolating due to the pandemic. While it’s difficult knowing you may not be able to be together for brunch or tea this year, there are still festive alternatives to honor the mother in your life from afar.

Sending scents

Fragrance has long been a way to soothe the senses and elevate the everyday. Hope Fragrances uses the uplifting scents of whiteflowers mixed to perfection to create three unique styles of Eau de Parfum. Our signature fragrance uses lily of the valley, jasmine, gardenia, and tuberose to create a pure, delicate scent with a verdant freshness that imparts a lightness to the wearer. For a more exotic, sensuous experience, Hope Night mixes plum, amber, vanilla, and patchouli with the subtlety of white flowers for a deeper balance. Hope Sport brings energy into the mix for a youthful feel infused with green citrus for a crisp note among the sweetness of tuberose and lily of the valley.

Sending a fragrance to your mom not only expresses your appreciation but also gives her a little something extra to look forward to with every spritz. If she’s the type who would rather fill her home with scents, our candles mix our signature fragrance with a blend of soy, beeswax, and coconut oils to fill any room with lightness and hope. If you’d like to build a complete relaxation package for Mother’s Day, consider sending candles or incense along with a few key items to allow Mom to relax at home—a soft neck pillow, some fuzzy socks, and perhaps a gifted app for meditation or mindfulness.

Calling face-to-face

Sending gifts may not satisfy your need to see your mom face-to-face, but we’re fortunate to have multiple ways to use video through our smart devices and computers. Whether it’s a video call through your phone or an application, carving out some time on Mother’s Day just to say hi and catch up may be the most important gift you can give. To make it feel even more special, you can plan to dress up for the occasion, allowing you and Mom to feel more like you’re attending an event. With social distancing in place, those fancy outfits aren’t going anywhere—give yourself a reason to wear something special or fun and instill a sense of normalcy in these uncertain times.

Consider making a recorded video message just for your mom, involving everyone in your household—even pets! Record yourself (or yourselves) singing one of her favorite songs or reading one of her favorite poems. Encourage grandchildren to get involved in the music-making or to make some accompanying art. Bring your furry friends into the frame to “say hello” or incorporate a special trick. There are no limits to a video project—only your imagination! Many smartphones can receive these as texts, but if you create something larger in scale, there are many free apps for large file storage you can find online as a means of sharing.

Bring brunch back

Staying at home doesn’t mean you can’t host a spectacular Mother’s Day brunch. Whether it’s just you and her or an event for the whole family, there’s nothing to stop you from enjoying a traditional sweet-and-savory brunchtime. Websites and apps like Favor, which specializes in delivering local favorites, or Goldbelly, which sources gourmet treats nationwide, allows you to choose the perfect brunch items for Mom, ranging from homemade pies to full breakfasts. You could even get together on a quick video call for a special toast when you’re ready to eat.

Up your care package game

Since Mom can’t go to the spa, why not bring the spa to her? Creating an at-home spa experience is easy with online gifting and completely customizable. Here are a few ideas we came up with to kickstart your tailored at-home spa experience:

  • Put your feet up: Send Mom a luscious foot bath (did you know they make ones with mini waterfalls?) a pedicure kit (essential for self-quarantine), and nail polish in her favorite color family.
  • Sit back and relax: Gift Mom an electronic shiatsu massager to relieve any stress or muscle tightness, an inspiring or favorite book or audiobook, and some lightly scented lotion to apply before bed or after a relaxing bath.
  • Feel fresh-faced: For the mom who wants to feel youthful, consider sending nourishing face mask treatments, a water infuser for adding fresh fruit flavor to her hydro flask, and gifting her some relaxing (or energizing!) music to listen to during her at-home facial.

This Mother’s Day will be unique in all our lives. However, it presents an opportunity to display your appreciation in creative ways. We may be missing the hugs and kisses, but we can still show our love no matter how great the distance.

As always, Hope Fragrances uses its proceeds to fund depression research. We understand Mother’s Day can be difficult for those who have lost a mother or mother figure, or who have experienced pregnancy loss. If you are experiencing feelings of depression or hopelessness, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.
